Jeff Oestreich
Jeff Oestreich (pronounced Aa strike) attended Bemidji State University in MN from 1965 to 1969 where he earned a B.A. in studio art. He also studied with Warren MacKenzie at the U of M in Mpls. before going to England to apprentice at the Bernard Leach Pottery in St. Ives. Jeff is a superb craftsman. He has the patience for clean up and detail not often displayed by studio potters. Constantly evolving and developing his forms and glazes,Jeff always brings new work to the table. His most recent work at TRAX reveals his interest in geometric patterns using precision glaze swaths surfacing his pots. He is a gentle man passionate about his heritage. Jeff lives from the sales of his work, occasionally teaching here and there, often on other continents. He is a bread maker and pasta former....the pots in his kitchen come from many potter friends and truly warm the heart as well as the food. He buys and collects many historic pots. These, he says, he can always afford (they're not cheap)yet, like many studio potters, Jeff thinks alot about his lack of health insurance. It is a matter of priority.
