Jan lives on 24 acres outside of River Falls, Wisconsin, with her husband, Randy Johnston. Jan went to Quadna Summer Art Center in 1976 for a summer clay workshop which endeared her to ceramics. She attended the University of Minnesota before going to Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville from Spring 1989-1990. Jans work is graceful and feminine, also having a strong and durable quality which appeals to both men and women. The textures are smooth and interesting as the glaze is colorfully interwoven. Her pieces are comforting to the soul as well as functionally superb. Jan has shown in exhibitions from 1994- to the present. She is represented by LaCoste gallery in MA as well as TRAX
